  • It is used in air conditioning and refrigeration systems.

What is the safety limit of DEG and EG?

According to World Health Organisation (WHO):-
Not more than 0.10% V/V of DEG and EG in any pharmaceuticals products.
If the small amount is above than limit it can cause liver damage, kidney failure in children.

Why Pharmaceuticals companies are still using DEG or EG in medicine preparation?

DEG and EG is used in syrup to make syrup sweet and smooth in nature. The small  pharmaceuticals company are using DEG and EG to save money which play vital role in children death. It is cheaper than  glycerin and propylene glycol in price. So pharmaceuticals company should use glycerin and propylene glycol to make cough syrup smooth and sweety taste which is safe for medicine and food.
